aPHR Prep Course

HRCI’s Associate in Professional Human Resources is a knowledge-based certification for those interested in starting a career in human resources or for those HR or non-HR professionals who manage employees eager to learn the basics of human resource principles, best practices, and employment law. Learners will be introduced to five functional areas of Human Resources:

  • Talent Acquisition
  • Learning & Development
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Employee Relations
  • Compliance & Risk Management

This aPHR course is a six-week instructor-led online course on Thursday nights that focuses on the essentials of human resource management and guides learners through the preparedness process to pursue the aPHR certification or as a basic foundation for those in non-HR related roles. The course includes interactive discussions and exercises, studying tips, practice questions, and an overview of the exam testing environment.

Eligibility Requirements: Learners must possess a high-school diploma or global equivalent. No prior HR experience is required.

Course Dates: March 2, 2024 – April 6, 2024

Time: 10:00am-1:00pm CST

PHR/SPHR Prep Course

HRCI’s Professional in Human Resources (PHR) is designated for those HR professionals with minimum experience working in HR roles focused on implementing HR policies, procedures, or operational functions.   

The Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) is designated for mid-senior level HR professionals with extensive knowledge in all HR disciplines and a drive to align the organizations people strategy with the business strategy.      

The PHR/SPHR courses are an 8-week instructor-led course on Saturday mornings that delves deeper into the five functional areas of Human Resources and provides learners with an overview of the preparedness process to pursue the PHR or SPHR certifications.  The course includes interactive discussions, study tips/resources, practice quizzes/exams, and an overview of the exam testing environment.

Summer Course: Saturdays, June 8, 2024 – July 27, 2024
Fall Course: Saturdays, October 19, 2024 – December 14, 2024

MCG offers three HR certification preparation courses for HRCI or SHRM equivalent: aPHR, PHR (SHRM-CP), and SPHR (SHRM-SCP). Not sure which exam is right for you? Here’s a quick breakdown.

Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR)

HRCI’s Associate Professional in Human Resources™ (aPHR™) was created for individuals new to or transitioning to the HR field, recent college graduates, military personnel transitioning to civilian life, or non-HR professionals who manage individuals in the workplace. You do not have to have prior HR experience to sit for this exam since this is a knowledge-based certification.

Professional in Human Resources (PHR)

The PHR was designed for HR professionals with the minimum years of experience working in HR capacities that require implementing HR policies and procedures or operational duties. Please refer to HRCI for details on the minimum year and educational requirements.

Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)

The SPHR was designed for HR professionals in mid-senior level HR roles with extensive knowledge in all HR disciplines and a keen understanding of an organizations business strategy. There are minimum year and educational requirements that can be found on HRCI’s website.
